Local Government Law
SSE&C provides legal services to counties, county agencies, state authorities, municipalities, and municipal authorities throughout the State of New Jersey. For over 40 years, the firm has been actively involved in representation and litigation matters on behalf of urban and suburban public clients, large and small.
The firm regularly advises public entities on both general and specialized legal needs. Among our services, we attend public meetings, consult daily with elected and administrative officials, review and prepare contracts, resolutions, and ordinances, and negotiate agreements with public employee union representatives. We pride ourselves in being easily available to our clients and balance our services to clients by proactively providing advice and counsel designed to avoid litigation and legal problems, while zealously safeguarding each public entity’s legal rights.
SSE&C attorneys have extensive experience in litigating public sector matters such as the defense of civil rights claims of all kinds in the state and federal courts, Title 59 defense, all aspects of employment litigation, election matters, planning and zoning matters, commercial and construction litigation, and specialized litigation going to the proper exercise of governmental authority.
We have successfully represented public sector clients in hundreds of proceedings before the state and federal courts of New Jersey (through and including the appellate and Supreme Courts of New Jersey and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals), the Office of Administrative Law, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Public Employment Relations Commission, and arbitrators. Notwithstanding the firm’s wide experience, our attorneys seek to avoid litigation. They provide advice and counsel designed to avoid legal problems and litigation, while at the same time zealously safeguarding the legal rights of our public sector clients.
